In the next version… Contracts

Possibility of signing contracts was proposed by some playes long time age, however, there was no justification for the introduction of such feature from the game mechanic point of view (It was hard to put them together with some other elements from the world of games). With the appearance of sequels some began to grieve, on the fact, that not always all creators are available, when they wanted to make the sequel of its hit. At this point, this option began to make sense, but I had to find a reasonable way of incorporation into the mechanics of the game.

And here I probably did. With the next version there will be a new option to sign a contract with choosen creator. Contracts will be subject to the following rules.

Movie Business (Biznes Filmowy) 2 has already so much content, that I found to be usefull to have internal search engine. Thanks to it you will be able to:

  • search for information about the movies and artists
  • you will receive additional special features not available from the normal interface
  • additional statistics about the set
  • use cheat codes

Impressions from the version 0.9.4

It's been a week since publishing version 0.9.4 of the game (and hot patch for it) so it's time to collect your thoughts and comments about this version.

However, before I go into details, I would like to say, that makes me very happy, your fast feedback about the problems. Thanks to the cooperation with you (here thanks to Bartosz) I was able to rapidly detect and diagnose the problem and publish HotFix, which solved the problem.

Cooperation with the community and your fast reactions are particularly important in the case of such projects as Movie Business, that are created by one person, that has quite limited in both time and hardware (testing on a small number of configuration). Therefore, if you find a problem in the game, do not hesitate to send a message to Facebook profile or e-mail with details (the more the better).

I also enjoyed Your first impressions and reviews, that submitted to me immediately after the release of the game. Now as you had some more time to play I look forward to more.

Hotfix that is new version 0.9.4.35519

As usual. when you throw a game on the deep water the problems arises. This time, Bartosz found a bug related to bad counting player-created scripts. The problem is with medium severity, appears occasionally (only Bartosz it reported) but I suggest at the earliest opportunity update the game (because, as it appears you will not be able to create a scenario). By the way, I fixed a couple of small things (what you can see in the version history.)

As, I it treats as a hot fix, the game doesn't force you to update, and the new version is marked with the number 0.9.4.35519 (last digits are imporent) and dated for today. I invite you to download page

In the next version... Paintings, Cars and Exhibitions

In the Movie Business in addition to production of movies, from the very beginning there was an opportunity to spend cash on luxury. In the first part of the game it was the cars, immovables and even airplanes. In the second one, there are auctions where you can buy works of art. This functionality, Judging by the trophies earned by players, do not enjoy a particularly high interest. I must admit, however,, that my "mission" is to create a game, which also has educational value. In the case of X. muse is to get known with perhaps less popular but important and valued, or simply iconic creators (probably you have noticed, that set of the creators in the game is very wide: from teen idols, iconic heroes from tv series, by the biggest stars of Hollywood, the legend of the film till creators of the mainstream cinema. and independent productions).

Similarly, I would like to play in educating other fields of art ... specifically painting. Yes, finally (because this feature was, of course, planned from the very beginning) paintings will be visuallized by photos. So you can see what you buy at auction. Perhaps this will encourage you more to this type of investment.

In the next version. Production with investor

Another problem, who is trying to resolve in the nearest version is a quick bankruptcy player at the beginning of the game. It is often the case, that after two failed productions at the very beginning of the game, the player does not have the ability to rebound from the bottom, What can be frustrating, especially for those who are just starting their adventure with the Film Business. One solution to this problem is to introduce deals executive producer about which I wrote before. Today about another option "production with the investor".

Currently in the Movie Business player in financial trouble, in desperation, can use the help of the mafia. However, this is a last resort, that does not necessarily allow you to escape from the problems (and may cause the dig in the next ... in the end mafia sooner or later will ask about their money). In the next version. Post-production visualization

Movie Business is not a game in which you will find too many fancy features. By "fancy features" I understand such features, which do not affect in any way enhancement of game mechanics, and these are only the audiovisual gimmicks. Hence, the game looks like it looks like… In the new version I decided to enhance it with a “fancy feature”. It will be the visualization of special effects. How it will work?

In the next version. Production report

One of the more frequent complaints relation to the game, ranked mainly by beginners, is its randomness. Randomness by itself is not a problem but the fact, that often the Player cannot see the consequences of this randomness (apart from the final assessment of the film). Such a situation occurs e.g.. during production of the film, when there are many calculations and some of them depends on some random coefficients. While some of them are visible to player (such as. star rating of the performance of a creator) the others are nowhere shown.

The antidote for improving the current situation is "production report" published after the production is finished and show in detail several so far not visible pseudo random decisions , that ultimately affected the final result of the film.

This report is intended to facilitate understanding of the player why the movie came out so, and not otherwise. Not always the production report will contain some information – sometimes it can be empty (this means, that there was not undesired random elements in addition to the performance artists).

Such a report could come in handy in the future, When new features appear ... but more on that in next episodes.

 

In the next version… Executive Producer

All followers of social network (Facebook / Google ) official profiles of the game already know, that next version is coming. Today it is time for the first details related to next release. The first one goes so called, Executive Producer.

The idea of executive producer appeared inspired by the comments from the author Level Design for beginners Jack Wesolowski. He drew attention, that MF2 doesn't allow for safe experimentation. Wrong decisions at the beginning of the game will result in a rapid defeat and discouragement among the beginners. Remedy for it was introduced recently short films ... They are cheaper to produce what in practice means taking less risk. Unfortunately, it looks like, that this idea was ultimately not good enough in practice.

Video Tutorial: Cult characters

I am pleased to present to you the first in the history of the Movie Business video tutorial to the game. It is dedicated to Cult Characters. The 10 minutes video I am telling you about what cult characters are, how to use them in your own films, and how to add new one, with the use of the site MovieStats.

As a part of extension of MovieStats the new option appeared, that allows you to add your own cult characters for a particular actor or actress. This video shows in detail how to do it.

Video is recorded with a commentary in Polish but there are also subtitles in English. In addition, all examples have been presented with the English-language version of the game and MovieStats so material will be useful for all who do not speak Polish.

This is the first such material for the Movie Business, so, let me know what you think about it. If you like it maybe in the future there will be more videos about other aspects of the game.

In addition, after watching the video, you can run the game. Yesterday's version 0.9.2 contains more than 200 cult characters added by me. So right away you can try out this mechanism in practice. The MovieStats search engine has been extended. To allows check whether a particular cult character is already in the game. I hope, you will be tempted to add also your own favorite characters.

Version 0.9.1 – fixes and improvements

Slowly it becomes tradition, that after the next big version of the game being released , in a short time after her, occures another which is something like hotfix. Economies of scale makes its own and run a program on multiple computers, by many users finds consecutive errors and faults. With some of them you can live, others are quite critical and require a fairly rapid response.

So it happened with version 0.9.0, which, as it turned out contains a fairly major bug in algorithms. The effect is that, after several years of the game the popularity many (average popular) creators going into the space. Problem found again Kacper, who sent me a movie illustrating the problem. After examination I was able to find its source and fix it.

By the way the new machanism which automatically sending errors to the server online works. Thanks to it I got auto notification of several other (smaller) problems arising in specific situations.

Version 0.9.0 ready for download

I am pleased to announce that, after several months of intensive work, You can now download version 0.9.0 Movie Business 2. However, before you do this please do read a couple more important information.

Information about changes and news in this release can be found in version history, a more detailed description of the new functionality you can find in the post on my personal blog.

With the new version, the game requires an updated .NET Framework library (to version 4.5). No stress, most likely you do not have anything special to do, probably because you have it already installed on your systems (this library is very popular and is used by many applications such as. the drivers for your graphics card). If during the installation, it will not be detected, the installer informs You of this and indicates where it can be download. However, if for some reason something went wrong, just let me know by email. I will try to help you solve the problem.

Dynamic parameters

As you probably know, some of the parameters of the creators of the Movie Business are dynamic. This means, that they change in time. So far this was related to sexappeal and action parameters of the creator. This mechanism was used to simulate the aging of creators. In the new version there are two more parameters which will change over time: popularity and talent.

Profiles in the cloud

Version 0.9.0 of Movie Business will make it possible to store the profile in the so-called. cloud that is on the game server.

In which situations this feature can be handy:

  • when we play with more than one computer so start the game on the first one but we leave for example. on holidays to parents home, and we would like to proceed with the acquisition of such subsequent challenges. Then we can export a profile before you leave and then import it on the new computer (where you installed the game).
  • the second often case is when you re-install computer. Here again before reinstalling we export profile and after new instalation can recover it from the cloud.

Due to the fact, that store the profile in the cloud takes up valuable space on the server this feature is available for donors from golden level.

Translation and review updates

The new version of the Movie Business introduces some significant changes and improvements in reviews. The emergence of sequels forced a significant amount of development conditions, that affect their creation. It was necessary to add many dependencies between the new film, and the original one, starting from its assessment of the, by the values of the individual parameters of the scenario, the presence or absence of specific creators and the assessment of their performance in both parts.
